Class 455AA 4-8-4 (1996)

Class 455AA 5-Cylinder Triple-Expansion Compound Express Passenger Locomotive
Designed by Artur Gorote
Built by RSR Works, Bevice-Akohniçe, Ruhnia, in 1996

The success of the streamlined 434DD went beyond even the optimistic expectations of the RSR publicity team. From the occasional one-per-day specials the luxury train offering had to be expanded to three or four trains each way per day on some routes, notably the Kroplihne Valley line between Bevice and Zarpsi, between Gunerad and Forihv over the "Back Door Route" and between Lamechov and Tstaie. To cope with this increased traffic, a number of the newer class 455A 4-8-4s was also fitted with Raymond Loewy's shrouding. Additional coaches also had to be provided. The streamlined specials have made a sizeable contribution to the country's tourist revenues and the RSR and RK now enjoy more visitors than another railway in the world. For a short time, some 455AAs were painted sea green, with coaches to match, but after a few instances where there was no matching locomotive for the coaches (or vice-versa), the whole fleet reverted to the original forest green.
