Class 564B 6-Cylinder
Doherty Compound Express Goods Locomotive
Designed by Jochann
Ketterik
Built in 1975 by RSR
Works, Bevice-Akohniçe, Ruhnia
The class 564B
4-10-4
does not belong to RSR history, because all of these magnificent
machines
are still in service, albeit in rebuilt form, doing yeoman work on all the RSR's main routes.
Their
impeccable pedigree is apparent from both their contribution to the
RSR's
freight-moving business, which includes the Trans-Euro-Freight link, of
which several routes pass over RSR metals, and their record of low
operating
costs and high reliability. To produce this superb machine, Ketterik
built on the experience gained with the 364A pacific and 564A 4-10-0,
combining
the Doherty layout with a wide firebox. With their
8.3
square metres of grate area and 32.6 tons of tractive effort (not
including
the booster's 5.4 tons), these engines are the equal of every task.
Haulage of
loads
of 1400 tons gross up the notorious Rovniebera bank at 100 kmh is an
everyday
achievement. The 564B turned out to be a first-class investment
which gave excellent returns for many years.
