A Few Pictures of the Red Devil

This locomotive, which was built in the early 1980s under the leadership of David Wardale, represents the last true development of steam technology for rail transport that ever took place. There have been enough books and magazine articles written on the subject, so that a description can serve no further purpose here. Suffice it to say that like André Chapelon's 242A and 160A, it remained a singleton, arriving too late to stem the burst of the technical Cloaca Maxima started by Werner von Síemens and Rudolf Diesel.

Just enjoy the sight of this last true great work of steam engineering art!
